Job Summary

As Software Development Engineer, you will work with a team building best-of-breed cross-platform NAS-based storage and security solutions. Your expertise in protocol-level design and development will help us create the file systems for the industry's NAS leaders such as HP, Riverbed, and EMC2 Isilon and DataDomain.

Essential Functions

  • Design and implement new features and enhancements to file system technologies.
  • Take ownership for implementing software solutions per stakeholders’ requirements.
  • Work with partners who are integrating our solutions with their products.
  • Write unit tests and other automated testing solutions.
  • Create documentation for partner engineers.

Candidate requirements

  • At least BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical field
  • 4+ years worth of file system or other protocol-level development experience with multiple operating systems
  • Experience with standard Unix/Linux BSD socket APIs
  • In-depth knowledge of:

  •              -  CIFS/SMB/SMB2 file services
                 -  Windows Active Directory domain protocols such as DCE/RPC, Kerberos, NTLMSSP,
                     GSSAPI/SSPI, and LDAP
                 -  NTFS file system semantics regarding oplocks, leases, byte-range locks, and share modes
                 -  NAS and/or SAN storage and surrounding infrastructure
  • Understanding of other NAS protocols such as NFS is a plus
  • Understand issues around performance and scalability under heavy loads

As SDET, you will work with a team bringing a new enterprise storage and security solution to market. In addition to all-around development and testing skills, you will bring expertise in testing multi-tiered enterprise applications.

Software Developer in Test - File System

As SDET, you will work with a team bringing new private and public cloud-based storage solutions to market. In addition to all-around development and testing skills, you will bring expertise in testing system-level software, filesystem performance, and scalability.

Field Development Engineer

Two Full-Time Positions

As a Field Developer you will be the primary technology contact for Likewise's Technology Licensing (TL) partners and will provide, in the field, post-sales software integration and support for our customers. The typical customer environments that a Field Engineer will function within are networked implementations of Unix and/or Windows, interfacing with NAS storage devices running Likewise CIFS/NFS. You must be a motivated self-starter, with demonstrated technical problem solving skills; be an experienced developer; and have a strong customer service orientation. Expect 25%-35% travel, some international.

Essential functions

Field Developers assist Likewise customers through on-site support including:

  • Serve as the company's liaison and chief technical contact with partners.
  • Interpret customer needs and clarify roles and responsibilities.
  • Perform diagnosis and technical troubleshooting, working with the development staff to identify and deliver solutions.
  • Work with partners to integrate Likewise software solutions with partner products.
  • Provide technical solutions, including bug-fixes and software adaptations, in support of TL partners.
  • Create documentation and post-mortem analyses of escalations.
  • Ability to travel to customer site with minimal notice.
  • Work collaboratively with customers in potentially stressful situations, while providing professional and courteous technical expertise.

Job requirements

  • 3+ years software development experience with C/C++, as either a developer or SDET.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service experience working with customers in high stress situations on complex problems.
  • Experience providing trace analysis of packets and protocols.
  • In-depth knowledge of:

  •                - UNIX configuration, administration and technical support.
                   - Windows NT/2000/2003 configuration, system administration and technical support.
                   - NAS and/or SAN storage and surrounding infrastructure.
                   - Network Attached Storage protocols experience (NFS/CIFS/iSCSI) and
                     related required protocols (DNS, NIS, and Active Directory)

  • This individual must work effectively with Staff to Vice President level employees.
  • Limited supervision and direction is provided, as this individual can operate and drive results and set priorities independently.

Education and experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience is required.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent related experience is required.
  • Demonstrated completion of multiple, complex technical projects
  • Knowledge of commercial databases such as Oracle, SAP, and Microsoft SQL Server, is desired.
  • Familiarity with multipathing software, volume managers, file systems and backup software is desired.
